Customer Video – Honda Pioneer Dual Battery installation and Isolator Setup
xxx
Here’s a practical step‑by‑step guide for installing a dual battery system with an isolator on your Honda Pioneer:
🔧 What You’ll Need
- Second battery (deep cycle recommended for accessories)
- Battery tray/box for secure mounting
- Smart isolator (e.g., TRUE UTV‑SBI, Blue Sea ACR, or similar)
- Heavy‑gauge cables (4–6 AWG)
- Fuse or circuit breaker (near each battery)
- Ground straps
Optional: accessory fuse panel
⚙️ Installation Steps
- Mount the Auxiliary Battery
- Place in a secure tray/box in the Pioneer’s storage area.
- Ensure it’s protected from vibration and moisture.
Install the Isolator
- Mount close to the batteries to minimize cable length.
- Smart isolators automatically connect/disconnect based on voltage.
Wire the Batteries
- Connect main battery positive → isolator input.
- Connect isolator output → auxiliary battery positive.
- Ground both batteries securely to the chassis.
- Place fuses/circuit breakers within 6–12 inches of each battery.
Connect Accessories
- Run accessories (lights, winch, stereo, etc.) from the auxiliary battery via a fuse panel.
- This prevents draining the starter battery.
Test the System
- Start the Pioneer: both batteries should charge.
- Shut off engine: isolator should disconnect, protecting the starter battery.
- Verify accessories run only from the auxiliary battery.
⚡ Isolator Setup Notes
Smart isolator: Connects batteries when charging voltage is present, disconnects when engine is off.
Manual override: Some isolators allow you to link batteries for emergency starting.
Cable size: Use 4–6 AWG for main connections; smaller gauge for accessories.
🚨 Safety Tips
Always disconnect the negative terminal before wiring.
Use proper crimped lugs and heat‑shrink for secure connections.
Avoid routing cables near sharp edges or hot exhaust parts.
