Sexy RZR Turbo Dual Battery Isolator Installation Video
The following video is a dual battery installation with True battery isolator kit by RZRCRZY Channel
Today we bring you the second accessory battery install to the 2018 RZR Turbo. Hard video to film but somewhat informative!
Installing a dual battery isolator on a Polaris RZR Turbo can help protect your primary starting battery while powering accessories (lights, winch, stereo, etc.) from a second battery. Below is a clear, step-by-step guide — but always refer to your specific isolator’s instructions and take proper safety precautions.
🧰 What You’ll Need
Tools & Parts
-
Dual battery isolator (solid-state or solenoid style)
-
Battery cables (size depends on isolator amperage — often 2–4 AWG)
-
Heat-shrink terminals or crimp connectors
-
Ring terminals (proper sizes for your battery posts and isolator)
-
Cable ties or clamps
-
Fuse(s) or circuit breaker (between battery and isolator)
-
Wrenches/sockets (usually 8 mm–13 mm)
-
Crimper and wire stripper
-
Optional: voltmeter/test light
Safety Gear
-
Gloves
-
Safety glasses
🔌 Step-by-Step Installation
1. Disconnect the Batteries
Before you touch any wiring:
-
Remove negative (–) cable on BOTH batteries first.
-
Then remove positive (+) ends.
This prevents shorts and shock.
2. Choose a Mounting Location
Pick a spot that’s:
✔ Close to your batteries
✔ Dry and away from hot engine parts
✔ Accessible for wiring
Common spots:
-
Battery box area
-
Under hood panels
Mount your isolator securely with screws or bolts.
3. Plan Your Wiring Route
You’re going to connect:
-
Battery #1 (front/main)
-
Battery #2 (rear/aux)
-
Accessories (lights, stereo, winch, etc.)
-
Ground
Keep cable runs short and tucked out of moving parts or sharp edges.
4. Connect the Main Battery Lead
✔ Run a heavy-gauge cable from the positive (+) terminal of your main start battery to the “Battery 1” or “Input” post on the isolator.
📌 Add a fuse or breaker close to the battery post (e.g., 100–200 A depending on isolator specs).
5. Connect the Second Battery
✔ Run another heavy-gauge cable from the positive (+) terminal of the auxiliary battery to the “Battery 2” post on the isolator.
Again, install a fuse or breaker near this battery for safety.
6. Grounding
✔ Run a solid ground cable from the aux battery negative (–) to the chassis or a clean grounding point.
✔ Make sure the main battery ground is also solid.
Good grounding prevents electrical noise and starting issues.
7. Accessory Power (Optional)
If you want to power accessories:
-
Run power from the aux battery (or isolator accessory/output if provided) to your accessory fuse block or devices.
-
Install proper fuses on each accessory circuit.
8. Reconnect Everything
Once all cables are installed:
-
Reconnect positive (+) on both batteries
-
Then connect negative (–) on both
Double-check all nuts are tight and insulated.
9. Test It
✔ Turn the RZR on and verify voltage at each battery.
✔ With engine running, both batteries should be charging (depending on isolator type).
✔ Turn on accessories — your start battery should remain unaffected.
You can use a voltmeter to see charging behavior.
⚠️ What the Isolator Actually Does
A dual battery isolator:
✅ Lets both batteries be charged by the alternator
✅ Prevents accessories from draining the start battery
❌ Doesn’t replace a proper charging upgrade (higher amp alternator may still be needed)
📌 Tips & Common Mistakes
-
Don’t skip fuses! A short on high-amp battery cables can cause fire.
-
Use thicker wires — undersized wiring overheats.
-
Keep wiring high and tight away from exhaust and moving parts.
-
If uncertain, consult an installer — electrical mistakes can be costly.
