The Fishing Fleet and the True® SBI

We’ve just completed a full upgrade across our fishing fleet—replacing every isolator with the True® Smart Battery Isolator. The difference was immediate. It’s an incredibly well-engineered product: beautifully simple, flawlessly functional, and built for real-world reliability. We paired it with your custom cable, and it made routing clean, fast, and hassle-free. Couldn’t be happier with the results—True® definitely lives up to its name.

Installing a True® Smart Battery Isolator in your fishing boat is a smart upgrade for managing dual batteries—keeping your starter battery protected while powering accessories like fish finders, trolling motors, and lights. Here’s a step-by-step guide with helpful video tutorials to walk you through the process:

⚙️ Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Understand the System Basics Learn what a dual battery isolator does and why it’s essential for marine setups.
    • explains the benefits and layout of a smart isolator system.
  2. Plan Your Wiring Layout Decide where to mount the isolator and batteries. Use marine-grade cables and waterproof connectors.
    • offers a clear wiring demonstration using busbars and fuse blocks.
  3. Mount the Isolator Secure the True® isolator near your batteries or fuse panel using screws or adhesive mounts.
    • shows how to mount and wire the isolator in a boat setup.
  4. Connect the Batteries
    • Connect the starter battery to one terminal of the isolator.
    • Connect the accessory battery to the other terminal.
    • Ground both batteries properly.
    • explains how voltage-sensitive relays (VSRs) work in marine systems.
  5. Run the Cables Use waterproof 6 AWG cables with shrink tubing for durability. Route them cleanly to avoid interference.
    • demonstrates cable upgrades and switch panel integration.
  6. Test the System Start your engine and check voltage readings with a multimeter. The isolator should allow charging of both batteries while preventing drain.
    • includes battery relocation tips and system testing.

After the season we will be rewiring our chargers also and will be contacting you to make custom cables for us.

Thanks.
