How the True® RAM 1500 Dual Battery Kit Works
Connects Two Batteries Together Safely
The True® RAM 2500 dual battery kit links your starter (main) battery and an auxiliary (deep-cycle) battery using heavy-duty cables and a smart isolator.
Smart Power Sensing (Automatic Isolator)
At the heart of the dodge ram dual battery system is a voltage-sensing automatic isolator. It monitors voltage from your alternator while the engine is running.
When voltage is high (charging):
The isolator allows charging current to pass to the auxiliary battery after the main battery reaches proper charge.
When voltage drops (engine off or high load):
The isolator disconnects the aux battery from the starter battery so accessories don’t drain the main battery.
Protects Your Starter Battery
The dodge ram dual battery system ensures your RAM always has enough power to start—even if you’re running lights, fridges, winches, or other accessories from the auxiliary battery.
Prioritizes Charging
The vehicle’s alternator first brings the main battery up to charge, then lets the auxiliary battery charge once the main is topped up. This helps both batteries stay healthy and fully ready.
Automatic & Maintenance-Free
There’s no need to switch manually between batteries—the system automatically manages charging and isolation, ensuring smooth and safe operation every trip.
Why Choose the True® RAM 1500 Dual Battery Kit?
1. Keeps Your Starter Battery Safe
Your RAM’s main battery is optimized for starting the engine—not powering accessories. A dual battery system isolates the auxiliary battery, so running fridges, lights, compressors, or winches won’t leave you stranded with a dead starter battery.
2. Powers High-Demand Accessories
Modern off-road rigs and work trucks run demanding gear:
- Winches and air compressors
- LED light bars and campers
- Inverters and refrigerators
- Radios, water pumps, and tools
A dual battery setup gives you dedicated power capacity without overloading your factory system.
3. Smart Charging & Power Management
Good kits (like the True® one) use voltage-sensing technology that:
- Prioritizes charging the starting battery first
- Automatically begins charging the auxiliary battery once the main battery is topped up
- Allows charging feedback from solar panels or battery chargers
This means your batteries stay healthier for longer, and you worry less about manual switching.
4. Simple, Safe Installation
Dual battery kits are designed for plug-and-play installs:
- No cutting into factory wiring
- No complex alternator or ignition splices
- Often includes cables, terminals, and hardware
This preserves your truck’s warranty and electrical integrity.
5. Built for Tough Conditions
Off-road trails, heavy loads, and harsh weather are no match for a properly engineered dual battery solution. Heavy gauge wiring and rugged isolators are made to resist:
- Vibration
- Heat
- Moisture
- Dust
6. Better Peace of Mind
From camping trips to remote work sites, a dual battery setup means you always have reliable power when you need it, and a guaranteed start every time—no guesswork, no dead battery surprises.
I run a 2020 Dodge RAM 2500 with dual batteries, a winch, and heavy‑duty lighting for long job sites. Before installing the True® RAM 2500 Dual Battery Kit, I was constantly worried about draining my starter battery. Now, the smart isolator manages everything automatically. I can power my tools and lights all day, then start the truck without hesitation.
Installation was straightforward, and the build quality is rugged enough for real‑world abuse. If you rely on your RAM for serious work, this kit is the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this kit fit both RAM 1500 and 2500/3500?
A: Yes. The isolator technology is universal for 12V systems. The primary difference between trucks is the length of cable needed. This RAM dual battery typically comes with universal lengths (often 20ft of red cable) that you cut to fit, covering everything from a standard RAM 1500 to a larger 2500 with a longer chassis run
Will installing this void my Dodge RAM’s factory warranty?
Where do I mount the RAM dual battery kit in the engine bay?
A: The True dodge ram dual battery system is compact (approx. 2.7″ x 2.7″). In most RAM trucks, you can mount it:
On the firewall near the primary battery.
On the side fender well.
Directly on top of the battery hold-down bracket (using 3M Dual Lock™ tape or zip ties if drilling isn’t preferred).
What does the Blue LED light mean?
Solid Blue: The batteries are CONNECTED. The engine is likely running, or the batteries have not yet dropped below 12.8V after shutting the truck off.
Light Off: The batteries are DISCONNECTED. Your accessories are running solely off the aux battery, and your starting battery is safe.
My truck is off, but the Blue Light is still on. Is it draining my battery?
Will this Ram 2500 dual battery kit work with my Dodge RAM’s alternator?
Yes. The True Dodge RAM 2500 dual batter kit uses PEP® (Proprietary Efficiency Programming) technology. This “smart” programming allows the isolator to work seamlessly with the Dodge RAM’s 12V charging system. It detects when the alternator is actually generating a charge (above 13.4V) before connecting the second battery, ensuring the vehicle’s electrical system isn’t overloaded.
